ARCADIA — Before her summer vacation ends and school starts, Madison Bright of Oologah, Okla., spent part of last week in Arcadia visiting her Grandpaents, Donald and Terry Bright. She was a guest in Arcadia Christian Church on Sunday morning.
On July 29, one week before the August 5  Primary Election,  a training for Clerks, Provisional board and ballot table workers was held in the Senior Citizens Building in Frontenac. Two sessions were held that afternoon conducted by Crawford County Clerk, Donald P. Pyle, assisted by his "right hand helper" Paula from his Girard Office. Patty Peterson and Mary V. Shead represented the Arcadia Election board at the 5 p.m. meeting. A different meeting was held for the Supervising Judges from each voting place. Linda Morris has that position in the Arcadia presinct.
After spending six weeks visiting his mother, Sherry Sisney, in Indianapolis, Brock Sisney returned to  Kansas  with her and took a flight from Kansas City Airport to Oregon to visit a friend. While in that area, Sherry enjoyed dinner with her daughter, Sherida Sisney and Sherry's sister, Susan Cherry from Shawnee.
Brock's cousin,  Phaedra Cherry from Shawnee, with her school friend left this week driving to Florida where they will be working at Disney World the rest of the summer.
Maria Shead returned to her home in Tulsa after her "Adventure of 40 Days in the Wilderness" in Wyoming this summer. She came to her Garland home and with her mother, Vickie Shead, traveled to Minnesota for a week to visit Vickie's brother, Don and Lara Applegarth and two daughters and Maria's grandmother Shirley Applegarth. Maria is a 4th grade teacher in Victory Life Christian School in Tulsa and is now preparing her room for school to start the middle of August.
David Peterson, pastor of Arcadia Christian Church, spent some time last week in Wichita attending an uncle's birthday celebration and visiting his grandmother Bonnie Epley and his folks Bill and Twonette Skidmore. On the first Sunday afternoon in August, he conducted services at the Arma Care Center and with friends enjoyed an evening meal at Gebhardt's.
Wednesday, July 30, to Tuesday August 3, Ralph and Cindy Shead attended the World Convention of the Christian Churches, Churches of Christ and Disciples of Christ Churches in Nashville, Tenn.  Enroute to their home in Carl Junction, Mo., they were overnight guests of her aunt and uncle in Mountain Home, Ark.
Charles Corporon writes his family that he recently underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy near his home in Milwaukee, Wisc. This procedure requires three small incisions and one slightly larger one through which the aspirated gall bladder is removed. No stitches required. The little slits don't hurt, the larger one only when he laughs.
The first Sunday in August church dinner in Arcadia Christian Church was enjoyed by 13 people. Several dinners were carried to homes. Cheyenne Mellon from the youth group taught by Betty Dehn pleased the ladies by being the dish washer this Sunday. All were glad that Carole Garrison was able to be back in class after her absence last week.
Pastor David's sermon was entitled "Be Ye Doers of the Word and Not Hearers only." Scripture was taken from the book of James. James was a step brother to Jesus. He was a leader of the church in Jerusalem, a Jew, wrote the last gospel in the Bible, was a servant of God. James was slow to speak, but he wants all of us to accept Jesus as our gift.
