For the second meeting in a row, the Girard City Council declined to take action Monday to fill a seat on the Girard Public Library Board of Trustees.

The Governing Body of City of St. Paul met in regular session on April 9 at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Mayor Richard Giefer called the meeting to order. Council members present; David O’Bryan, Robert Kroenke, and Jeff Gard, also present were City Attorney Richard Tucker and City Clerk Joan La Forte, City Foreman Stan Kennedy. Council member Keith Smith arrived at 7:06 p.m. Council member Keith Van Leeuwen was absent.

A new wrinkle involves deed and mortgage fraud. Unscrupulous individuals are accessing property ownership information, filing false deeds and mortgage applications in their names and sticking the unsuspecting property owner with the bill.

According to the National Safety Council, more than 700 farmers and ranchers die every year in accidents on the farm. Another 120,000 suffer some type of debilitating injury.
And most of those accidents could have been avoided if some basic safety measures were followed, said Kerri Ebert, extension farm safety assistant with the K-State Research and Extension Service in Manhattan.

And with the reappearance of tractors and other heavy implements as they travel from farm to field to begin spring planting, there are going to be traffic delays and, worse, accidents.
