The Crawford County Conservation District will host its 62nd annual dinner and meeting Feb. 21 in the cafeteria at Girard High School.
The event will kick off with dinner at 6 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be presentation of the three major annual awards to honor both new and ongoing conservation efforts by producers in the county.
This years Banker Award for new conservation practices will be presented to Jim Huff of rural McCune.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shanholtzer, also of rural McCune, will be named as recipients of the Continued Conservation Award for ongoing practices.
John W. Tersinar of rural Farlington will receive the 2008 Grassland Conservation Award during the event.
Several awards will also be presented to students for participation in the annual conservation essay and poster contests.
In the senior poster division, Kyle McGeorge of Girard was named Grand Champion and Anissa Zagonel of Girard earned Reserve Champion honors. Honorable mention awards will be presented to Ashley Johnson, Erica Jameson and Kenzie Curran, all of Girard.
In the junior division, Kieran Wilson of Frontenac will receive the Grand Champion award and Kenzie Henderson of Frontenac will pick up her Reserve Championship honors. Honorable mention awards will be presented to Kaylee Harper of Pittsburg, Annie Moody of Frontenac and Jordan Brill of Pittsburg.
Girard 8th grade students also swept in the essay contest, with Whitney West receiving Grand Champion and Kenzie Curran Reserve Champion honors. Honorable mentions will be presented to Hayden Bauer, Hadyn Herlock and Aubri Ashbacher.
West will read her award winning essay at the close of the evening.
