Hazel M. Lane, 96, of Girard, died Saturday at Girard Medical Center.
She was born March 24, 1912, in Hampton, Iowa, a daughter of Charles and Mary Rosenie (Kempthorne) Scantlebury. She was raised in Hampton and attended school there. After completing high school, she attended the Kahler School of Nursing for three years.
She was united in marriage to Jess J. Lane on March 15, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple moved to California where she worked in the health care industry. Mr. Lane preceded her in death in 1971.
In 1996 she moved to Walnut to be with her son and then to Girard a year later. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include: Daughter in-law, Anna Lane, Chapman; two grandchildren, Richard Lane, Corcoran, Calif., Annamarie Lane, Manhattan; three other grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Lane; a daughter, Janice Kelly; four brothers and one sister.
No services are scheduled. The body will be taken to Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, Iowa, for burial. Memorials are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. These may be left or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, P.O. Box 258, Girard, KS 66743.
