Roger L. Messinger, 73, of Olathe, formerly of Pittsburg died Saturday at Olathe Medical Center.
He was born September 28, 1934, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Glen and Stella (Rust) Messinger. He had been a resident of the Pittsburg area for 30 years, moving to Olathe four years ago. He attended schools in Iowa.
On Aug. 20, 1993, he was married to Sandra Harper in Pittsburg. She survives at the home.
He worked for Wal-Lite Manufacturing from 1959-1971 and for Vinyl Plex from 1971-1990. In 1990 he became part owner/operator for Progressive Products in Pittsburg, retiring in 1998.
He attended South Broadway Baptist Church in Pittsburg. He was raised in the Lutheran Faith. He was a member of the Pittsburg Masonic Lodge #187, a member of the Pittsburg Mirza Shriners, the Abdallah Shrine in Overland Park, the Mirza Shrine Patrol and a member of Girard American Legion Post 26. He was very involved in the transportation of his granddaughter to the Shriners Hospital, traveling frequently from Olathe to St. Louis.
Survivors include his wife Sandra of the home; three daughters: Laura Wallace of Olathe, Julie Carlson of Olathe and Raelynn Barth of Nederland, Texas; four sons: Jim Gentry of Overland Park, David L. Messinger of Girard, Keith Messinger of Roberts, Wisc. and Terry Messinger of Gold Beach, Ore; two brothersL Carroll Messinger of Barneveld, Wisc., and Mike Messinger of Republic, Wash.; a sister, Harriett Paulsen of Long Beach, Wash.; 23 Grandchildren and 20 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Christie McNatt; a granddaughter, Karen Messinger-Hacker and two brothers, Gerald and Glen Messinger.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery, with Masonic Graveside Rites.
