Fern Roberts, 87 of Pittsburg died at 6:20 am Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Cornerstone Village.
She was born Dec. 23, 1920 in Oskaloosa, MO the daughter of George B. and Bessie (Terrill) Mapes. She attended school in Arcadia and Girard.
On September 7, 1935 she was united in marriage to Frank D. Roberts in Jasper, MO; he preceded her in death on March 7, 1994.
Fern worked as a furniture re-finisher for Reeves Furniture in Pittsburg, she also worked for Storey’s Laundry in Girard.
She was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle and a Sunday school teacher there for 30 years.
Survivors include a daughter Mary Ann Selby and husband Vern of Littleton, CO; a son Frankie Lee Roberts and wife Pat of Port St. Lucie, FL; a sister Betty Russell of Pittsburg, KS; 3 half sisters: Della Noe, Daisy Matson and Vera Kaemmerling all of Pittsburg; brother George Mapes; 9 grandchildren Roberta and Mark Fanoele of Columbus, Greg and Maxine Worthington, Brad and Tami Worthington, Paul and Laura Worthington, Cindy and Thomas Kocian, Valerie and Mark Gottschalt, Lisa and Simon Martinez, Debbie Roberts and Frankie Roberts, Jr.; 3 step grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 8 step great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren and 2 step great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Reuben Mapes KIA WWII, 3 sisters Mabel Redfern, Mildred Coe and Gladys Stevens.
Funeral Services were 1 pm, Wednesday April 9, 2008 at the Lighthouse Tabernacle with Rev. Daryl Gaddy officiating. Burial was in the Girard City Cemetery. Condolences may be left www.bathnaylor.com.
