Battling the wind, Girard junior J.D. Heatherly carded a five-over-par 77 on Thursday to capture a second place individual finish and lead the Trojans to the team title in the annual Girard Invitational Golf Tournament at Girard Municipal Golf Course.
The player that really stood out was Trojan Macon McNair. He filled in for an injuried Ben Paoni in the No. 6 spot. He shot an 81 in 18 holes, good enough for a fourth-place individual finish..
“He found out that he would be playing varsity right before the meet started,” Girard Coach Steve Curran said.
Meet winner Bryce Rowe of Baxter shot par for the first nine holes of the tournament and carded a 40 for the last nine for a total of 76, just one shot ahead of Heatherly.
“J.D. continues to put up good scores,” Curran said.
along with Heatherly and McNair, Trojans Trey Scallions (5th-81) and Zack McFarland (10th-84) finished in the top 10 individually.
McFarland had the highlight for the day as he drilled an eagle on the No. 8 hole.
“I am very proud of our team and I really hope to continue to shoot well the rest of the year,” Curran said.
