GIRARD -

With 62 members, the GHS Art Club has more participants than ever, beating last year’s record of 55 members.
“This year’s Art Club definitely has the grooviest vibe yet,” commented Nicole Meyer, who has sponsored the organization for 12 years.
The 2008-09 Art Club officers, elected during seminar Sept. 5, include Taylor Batson, president; Jeanine Kunshek, vice president; Canese Jarboe, secretary; Natalie Blair, treasurer; and Whitney Southard, Student Council representative.
During the Sept. 5 meeting, members voted for T-shirt designs from 15 original student submissions. Calvin Whitney’s design, featuring a dinosaur battling a giant marshmallow, was chosen.
The club has several activities planned for upcoming months, including attending the annual Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs Oct. 13 and carving jack-o’-lanterns to sell to the community.
At home football games Art Club members will volunteer to face paint Trojan logos for free. Personalized designs will cost 25 cents.
In an effort to encourage youth interest in art, members plan to visit RVH each month to show kids fun art projects.
Regarding the project, Ms. Meyer said, “I want to have a fun year, but I’d also like to see the Art Club give back to the community.”
