GIRARD -

In observation of Constitution Day, Sept. 17, USD 248 students participated in various activities to enhance their Constitutional knowledge.
This day commemorates the signing of the United States Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.
All GHS students took a ten-question quiz over the Constitution during seminar. Among the students, Kourtney Anthony scored the highest with a 100 percent. The students who scored 90 percent or above have a chance to qualify for a regional contest in the spring.
The quiz tested students’ knowledge of the Bill of Rights, the Articles of Confederation, and the presidential line of succession.
Regarding the activity, American government instructor Jeremiah Hudson said, “It was beneficial in getting students interested in our government and the Constitution.”
GMS seventh graders in Terry Adamson’s social studies class completed crossword puzzles with questions regarding the American flag, the Continental Congress, and Pilgrims.
At RVH, Becky Cleland’s second grade class discussed how the Constitution originated, how it changes with the times, how laws need to be fair to everyone, and how it protects citizens today.
All federally funded schools in the United States are required to celebrate Constitution Day each year.
