GIRARD -

Seven students participated in the United Way Day of Caring in the Pittsburg area on Sept. 19.
Volunteers included seniors Sarina Ellis, Jordan Garbin, Danielle Geier, Darian Kelly, Starr McLeod, Morgan Powell, and Logan Root and sponsor Marilyn Hey.
The students first went to KIDS FIRST Daycare and Preschool in Frontenac where they helped by cleaning mats, washing windows, and sanitizing trash cans. Afterwards they went to the Pittsburg YMCA where they washed the floorboards in the gyms, picked up trash outside, and swept the parking lot.
With regard to the event, Mrs. Hey stated, “United Way Day of Caring is a good way for our students to be able to give back to the community, and we have many students who are eager to do so.”
The United Way of Crawford County sponsored the event, giving participants T-shirts and providing pizza and Gatorade for lunch.
Other schools that participated included Colgan, Frontenac, Northeast, Pittsburg, and Southeast.
